23 Marlow Street

For a hundred years, 23 Marlow Street has been taking people. One from every family. Nobody grieves, because nobody remembers there was anyone to lose.
Winter, 1984. Eric Thompson is eight, and he sleeps in the attic, one wall from the alcove where the light doesn't reach. He has a rule about the alcove. He has never told anybody.
Then the tapping starts. Always the same. One tap. A pause. One tap.
His dad hears it too. His dad grew up in this house.
And his dad is saying nothing.
